Hove is full of professionals and parents juggling long days, for whom the last stone or two will not shift on the gym and good intentions alone. GLP-1 medicines like Mounjaro and Wegovy quieten the appetite signals that make that so hard, and we review you face to face every month.

Weight loss injections for Hove
Brighton Clinics runs its GLP-1 weight-loss service from Coldean, a short drive north of Hove off the A27. Unlike online-only services, everything is in person here: the free consultation, the prescription by an independent prescriber, and a face-to-face review every month - a fifteen-minute run from Hove up the A2038.
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide) are weekly injections that act on the gut hormones controlling appetite, making sustainable change realistic rather than relying on willpower alone.
This page is written and clinically reviewed by the pharmacist team behind Brighton Clinics' weight-management service, led by Superintendent Pharmacist and independent prescriber Brijesh Thaker (GPhC 2079034) with independent prescriber Ahsan Khair (GPhC 2232869), following NICE guidance on tirzepatide (TA1026) and NHS guidance on obesity.
How Mounjaro and Wegovy work
Both Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide) are weekly injections that mimic the gut hormones your body releases after eating. Wegovy acts on the GLP-1 receptor; Mounjaro acts on two, GLP-1 and GIP. In practice they slow how quickly your stomach empties, dampen appetite and quieten the food noise that drives snacking, so you feel full sooner and for longer. They are not a substitute for eating well - they make the changes you are trying to make far easier to sustain.
Mounjaro vs Wegovy
Both are highly effective. In the pivotal trials, average weight loss at full maintenance dose was around 21% of body weight on Mounjaro (SURMOUNT-1) and about 15% on Wegovy (STEP-1) over roughly 15 to 18 months. Mounjaro's dual action tends to edge it on average, but the right choice depends on your medical history, tolerance and what is in stock - your independent prescriber talks this through at the consultation. Both are escalated slowly from a low starting dose to reduce side effects.
Am I eligible?
NICE recommends GLP-1 treatment for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27.5 or above if you have a weight-related condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or sleep apnoea. Lower thresholds apply for some ethnic backgrounds, including people of South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean origin, because health risks appear at a lower BMI. We check all of this at your free consultation - come without expectations either way.
Side effects and safety
The most common side effects are nausea, indigestion, constipation or diarrhoea, usually in the first four to eight weeks while your body adjusts, and usually settling as it does. Less common but important are gallbladder problems and, rarely, pancreatitis. We go through the full list at your consultation, escalate the dose slowly to limit side effects, and review you every month so nothing is missed. This is prescribing with a named pharmacist you can actually see, not an anonymous online form.
NHS vs private
NHS weight-management services do prescribe these medicines, but access is tightly rationed and waits for a Tier 3 service commonly run to many months or longer. If you have time and want the free route, ask your GP about an NHS referral first. If you would rather start now, with monthly face-to-face reviews and no subscription or contract, that is what we offer - and you can stop the moment you reach your goal.
Busy Hove lives, and why monthly reviews matter
Hove runs on professionals and families with packed diaries, and the thing that most often derails weight loss is not motivation but follow-through - the online subscription that ships the next pen whether or not anyone has checked how you are doing. We do the opposite: a proper monthly review where we look at your weight, side effects and dose, adjust if needed, and hand over the next month's supply in person. For an area as health-aware as Hove, that face-to-face accountability, ten to fifteen minutes a month a short drive up the road, is usually what makes the difference.
Getting to the clinic from Hove
From central Hove head north on Sackville Road and the A2038 to join the A27 eastbound, leaving at the Coldean and Moulsecoomb junction for Coldean Lane and Beatty Avenue - about fifteen minutes. From the seafront and Church Road you can also cut through the city and up the Lewes Road (A270). There is free patient parking on-site, which matters for a treatment you return to monthly. Mounjaro acts on two pathways (GLP-1 and GIP); Wegovy acts on GLP-1 alone. In head-to-head data Mounjaro tends to produce slightly greater weight loss on average, but both are highly effective. Brijesh will explain which is right for your specifics at the consultation.

Yes - both medicines are weekly self-injections, into the abdomen, thigh or upper arm. Brijesh walks you through the technique at your first visit. The needles are very fine and most people find it surprisingly easy.
