Hassocks is a village of around 8,300 people at the foot of the South Downs, best known for the Jack and Jill windmills that stand on the ridge above it. What vaccines do I need for Hajj or Umrah?
Saudi Arabia requires all pilgrims aged 1 and over to hold a current Meningitis ACWY certificate before their visa will be granted, given within the last 5 years and at least 10 days before arrival. We administer Menveo and provide the certificate in the same appointment, and typically also suggest Hepatitis A, Typhoid and a flu vaccine, given the food, water and crowd conditions during Hajj and Umrah.
Are travel vaccines free on the NHS, or do I need to pay privately?
A limited set of travel vaccines is available free on the NHS through GP surgeries for qualifying destinations: the combined Tetanus/Diphtheria/Polio booster, Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Cholera and MMR. Rabies, Hepatitis B for tourism, Japanese Encephalitis and Meningitis ACWY for tourism or Hajj are private everywhere in the country. If your GP can fit you in for the NHS-funded options, that is worth doing first; for everything else, or if you are short on time, we see Hassocks patients same-week as a matter of course.
