Anyone travelling to Saudi Arabia for Hajj or Umrah needs a valid Meningitis ACWY certificate to get their visa approved, and it has to have been given within the last 5 years and at least 10 days before you travel. We vaccinate with Menveo and hand you the certificate at the same appointment, and most pilgrims also take up our recommendation of Hepatitis A, Typhoid and a seasonal flu jab, given the crowds and food and water exposure involved in the pilgrimage.
Are travel vaccines free on the NHS, or do I need to pay privately?
Some travel vaccines are available free through GP surgeries for eligible destinations, including the combined Tetanus/Diphtheria/Polio booster, Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Cholera and MMR. Others, Rabies, Hepatitis B for tourism, Japanese Encephalitis and Meningitis ACWY for tourism or Hajj, are private wherever you go in the UK.
